The Color Run hit Adelaide today. My daughter and three of her friends participated as a team and I went along to watch and hopefully find a blip for today.
A bit too much colour for my taste, but colour was the name of the game today. A bonus was that I managed to walk 4 laps of the 5km course before my services as a taxi driver was called upon.

A few more from today that caught my eye and quickly processed a while ago . I have another 221 raw files which I am not very enthused about looking through – fortunately my daughter wants them so I will be off loading them for her to play with and to do with as she pleases.

Aussie actor Garry McDonald launched Beyond Blue’s $2 million anxiety awareness campaign on Monday.
The Logie-winning actor is now an ambassador for the anxiety campaign by mental health charity and advocacy group beyondblue.
The Get To Know Anxiety campaign also features a short film starring Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn.

I produced this short piece of music a couple of years ago and found it when I had to clean my hard drive of junk. The painting is a mixed media on board. I painted it some time ago during a productive period. It remains untitled even though it now has a new owner.

There was a time when I was not interested in photography. My world was sport, music and painting/illustration. While these endeavours are still pretty much what makes me who I am; photography has began to saddle up along side those big three and in recent months has taken precedence over the rest. This is just a phase and photography will settle down and blend in with the rest on an equal footing. My focus being on photography lately is because I am new to it.

It was the iPhone that got me started. I took some snaps just because it was quick & easy to do so. Then the apps started coming out and the results looked cool. For a while; but then they got to be repetitive and cliché so I reverted back to the camera without the apps. I liked the results a lot better – much more natural and pleasing to my aesthetic. The reasonable shots happened from time to time and I began to look at the iphonography website. I became hooked.

At around the same time Ellis Nadler a UK Illustrator who I made a connection with and exchanged an few words online with began posting daily on a (then) new online so called social media blog type journal thingy. I started to look more often and even joined up but never started my own journal. After a while I forgot about blipfoto entirely.

As time passed the whole photo/journal thing went out the window and life continued undamaged, well, perhaps I should say, with no further damage. I began to notice some of Ellis’s blip posts on his Facebook page and also on twitter. Of course I would look at them now & again and them more frequently. Then at the beginning of this year I began to take notice of the blip journals Ellis was subscribing to or adding to his list of favourites. These were very eye catching and so I check them out and had a closer look. At the end of January I decided to join this blipfoto thing and I did, only to discover that I had already done so last century. Sad really isn’t it.

Anyway I joined and started my daily journal updates with iPhone snaps. There were some personal reasons for joining which I won’t go into. If this little experiment didn’t go the way I was hoping I could always try something else and no harm would have been done to any living thing.

The sort story is that I became addicted within a month and bought my first real camera at the end of February. It took me a week to work up the courage to try the bloody thing. Of course I made every mistake possible and even some that most would have considered impossible even for dick witted moron like me, but there you go. I began shooting jpg instead of raw, but now I shoot raw only. I have even learnt to like the processing.

I am still very much a newbie and would never dare call myself a photographer, after all I have only started using DSLR two months ago. My interest has drifted towards portraiture although I do love landscape and street photography. I also like the odd and quirky although I need to build my skills and knowledge before tackling that sort of thing.

The name Cobar is derived from the Aboriginal Ngiyampaa word Kuparr, Gubarr or Cuburra, meaning ‘red earth’ or ‘burnt earth’, the ochre used in making body paint for Corroborees. The painting above is not in ochre colours, but represents ‘burnt earth’. The music selection titled Passing is from my Blark album.

The title track from the last album. This post means the whole album is on the blog or the home page player. Although conceived as one piece of music it is in five parts and has around 30 minutes playing time. Some sections are so soft it may sound like silence if the volume is low. Best listened to with head phones to catch the nuances.

Another track from the Blark album. Just 4 minutes long with some light breaking through like the sun between rolling rain clouds over the landscape.

Descent is from my Latest album Blark, which is dark ambient but with some very soft and quiet passages mixed in. Descent however is reasonably dark through out and not very long at just 6 minutes.

This is a bit long for a blog post (30 minutes), but you may enjoy it. A bit of musical humour and quirkiness, but just a bit.

The painting shown below has never really had a titled. I have failed to come with a suitable description.

Nothing what so ever to do with the music. Flight is from way back and from a series of paintings I did with a Tolkien theme. If you find it distraction then close your eyes, or your ears, which ever you prefer.

This piece is not what it once was. I had originally wrote and recorded it as a classical guitar solo some years ago before I discovered my passion for ambient music. My first album, Fall could only be described as dark ambient, even depressingly dark. I wanted to use Maharg’s Lament [Graham spelled backwards obviously] which wasn’t at all like the rest of Fall. As an experiment I took the 2 minute 40 second guitar recording and stretched it out like an electronic rubber band with and extended intro and an additional added ending. I gave the chorus the flick added some electric bass parts in the middle sections, with some percussion, and then mangled it on the synth and key board. Added repeated overlays and some extra sounds and effects to the mix. All good fun. In keeping with the album theme it is rather slow & dark; nothing like the original in anyway, shape or form.
